I love how evil Google is. Do you hear that, Google? I want you to have all of my data, as long as you keep protecting it. I want you to learn everything you can about me, and I want you to use that data to make my life better. I want you to make my life easier. I want services like Google Now to give me information before I even know I need it. I want it all. But many people arent in the same boat as me, and there are plenty of very valid reasons to want to protect your data and keep it out of Googles hands. But should that mean you have to stop using Google for searches?
Well guess what: it only takes one step to stop Google from tracking you, and you can still enjoy Google search along with several other Google features. Plus, there are some great alternatives to Google search that dont track you, and well cover them here as well.

Also look into configuring your the DNS servers you use on your home network! If you're using Google's DNS (8.8.8.8) for your network, you're simply telling them where you're going by just going there. Anywhere!
Check out OpenNicProject.org. This is an open source volunteer DNS service with DNS servers in markets all around the world. You just have to set the DNS servers on your home router or even your local computer, and you can browse in relative anonymity. The providers on this site do not save your DNS records (no DNS caching). As such, they can't provide any information to authorities looking to track your online browsing habits.
I’ve been using Ixquick for months, and set it as my default search engine in Firefox.
Thanks, will do.
Bump....
That happens to me every single time I go to a retail site. Or any other .. was wondering about in-town apartments ... sure ‘nuff, what came up when I logged in @ FB? Yup.
That’s what I use. Doesn’t track you.
