I see a lot of support for Carson from the 30 something crowd. My daughter and all her friends/co-workers support him; they are saying they will vote for him, not even considering other candidates. She was a fan of Ben Carson before I had even heard of him. She also says where she works the only people saying they will vote for someone else are die-hard liberals.
My daughter and her friends cannot believe anyone would vote for Trump and they think his numbers are not accurate. They see Trump as rude, petty, a bully. They don’t see him as having redeeming qualities.
Carson is the white guilt candidate. “I didn’t vote for Obama because he’s a socialist, but this is my shot to vote away racism!”
He’s useful to prevent the race card being played against our party, but president? He’s a constant gaffe machine with no experience running anything other than an operating room. Run for Senate first. Or get a cabinet gig. DHH or Surgeon General.
Conversely, the office manager at my (auto & home) insurance agent's office is around 40-45, I think. We were briefly discussing politics the other day, and she said she hadn't yet been following this election cycle closely, and did not know much about Trump. I summarized Trump's immigration position for her, and said I thought it made a lot of sense, but that "some people see him as a sort of brash jerk." She looked right at me and said "maybe that's what we need, right now."
I advised her to spend some time reading Trump's position papers.
