Jeez, Webb could end up taking more votes from the Republican candidate than the ‘RAT candidate.

I could never figure out why he’s still a D though.

Paternalism. Many a decent liberal wishes to help, sees the need and knows they can't do it alone. So they lie to themselves via this collectivized "we" and revert to force. Couple that to the self aggrandizement thereby and you have a witch's brew of delusional motivations and means to discount the necessarily counterproductive results. At that point one is trapped by a long history of accusation into avoiding those who might say "told you so."

This, if it comes to pass, would hurt Biden in the South and on the Seaboard; but especially in two states where he could least afford giving away 2% right out of his pocket - Virginia and North Carolina.

"If Bush is the nominee, I guarantee you that a lot of republicans will vote for Webb. I would. It’s time the GOP had a nominee we would be proud of."

Jim Webb is an OPEN BORDERS TURD and a LA RAZA stooge.

"Not sure what voters he might interest as an independent."

As the Democrat Party is nothing more than a coalition of Godless Communists; racists; welfare parasites; perverts and other assorted criminals, Webb wouldn't attract many, if any, Democrat voters if he ran as a third party candidate, but he might attract more than a few Republicans unhappy with a Trump nomination.

>> Maybe he’s thinking he’ll have some regional appeal, but there’s no way he could win <<

Don’t be naive. Webb is in the race to sell books.

Attaching the moniker of “sane” to Webb is tenuous at best. The guy is a walking hand grenade. He was a very weak link as a Republican when he served under Reagan and got even nuttier in the interim and became a Democrat (he went heavy-duty anti-Semite in the Senate primary against the Dems preferred candidate who would’ve lost to Allen, but they shut up about it in order to cripple Allen. He also very nearly punched out Dubya when he was sworn in, all because the President audaciously asking how his son was doing. Those are just two of his of his infamous acts).

How this guy gets any kudos from Conservatives defies the imagination. George Allen was the last Conservative Senator from Virginia, not this punk. If he appears “Conservative” despite having voted almost entirely lock-step with Reid & Co., it’s only because his opponents are harder-core Communist nutters, but it doesn’t make him any less disreputable.

Well, which of the 15 GOP contenders would like to run on the GREEN TICKET to offset this Clinton contrived tactic.

Webb has very conservative views on gun rights, the military and probably national security. Not sure of his views on most social issues and welfare state issues. But he’s so little known around the nation, he’d need some attention attracting stance to get a look from any significant number of voters. - As you both say, his only attraction might be as a protest vote to Republicans so dissatisfied that they’re willing to help the Dim nominee.

"Self serving jackass"

Anybody who runs as in independent is a "self serving jackass". Every election cycle I see FReepers say this candidate or that should run as an independent. It makes me ill.

I like Jim Webb, he is a democrat of 1950’s: patriotic,
has common values with the rest of the country, not trying to spend us into oblivion. (but I won’t vote for him)
