Hitler capitalized on very disgruntled people over the WW1 sanctions/treaty/surrender terms. That is basically whats happening here isn’t it? Today modern Euros are lashing out against the liberal invasion policies and turning 180 degrees just as they did in Hitler’s time.

Same for the french. Once they had enough of that nonsense, a Rev happened. And they went to the opposite extreme. Violently.

The specifics are of course different. But the underlying concept is identical.

Hitler was not voted into power, he was appointed then engineered a coup behind the scenes.

I have lived a total of 13 years in 5 European countries. What I have seen is the left and EU supporters demonizing anyone who expresses any nationalist views as the far right or skinheads or neo-Nazis. They raise the specter of Hitler to frighten and silence people.

There is not doubt that Hitler exploited the anger of the German people as a result of the harsh treatment by the Allies after WWI, the fall of the Wiemar Republic, and a worldwide Great Depression But I don't view what is happening in Europe today as analogous to the rise of the Nazis. Nationalism and Nazism are not synonymous.

Europeans have always been nationalistic. It explains that despite the many wars and conquering armies, the nations from Luxembourg to Germany have survived. In fact, we are seeing more nationalism as separatist movements are happening all over Europe. The Scots, Basques, Catalans, Waloons, etc. are seeking their own countries. The breakup of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union have resulted in many more countries. The reasons are as varied as the countries. Tribalism exists all over the world including in Europe and the US.

The bottom line is that I disagree strongly with the notion that nationalism is an evil force that will spawn the likes of the Nazis. Language, culture, and borders still matter to the human animal. Political elites can not erase them save for genocide and ethnic cleansing.
