Next year the legislature will be complaining because lottery sales have imploded.

This is impossible. Lotteries cure all state budget woes.

Maybe Illinois should be playing some of the other states lotteries. They could use the money. ;-)

So they are basicall stealing the $$$ paid into the lottery? It is Illinois, home of organized crime; no surprise.

I hope they don’t pay a lot more stuff! The Democrat supermajority still thinks they can wait Gov. Rainer out and he will cave. But he can’t - he knows he’s the only chance to break the back of the democrat-public union machine.

this is what happens when Democrats run things. And the stupid voters will keep voting democrat after buying a winning lottery ticket which the state won’t pay...

HB4305 will fix three things, if passed:
1) It will pay our lottery winners. Holding the winnings is just plain dumb and cynical.

2) It will restore the Motor Fuel Tax which has been collected by the state and passed-through to local government for years, but with the budget impact, is being held. This is also cynical. I am sure Republican and Democrat mayors need this - most use it for infrastructure, road improvement, snow removal, etc.

3) It will restore the revenue stream for local 9-1-1 centers. For years, the state collected 9-1-1 fees from the telephone companies, kept an amount for regulatory and handling fees, and distributed the balance to 9-1-1 authorities. This has always been a pass-through and DOES NOT impact the state's bottom line. In fact, there is Federal law that prevents the state from using 9-1-1 fees for any other purpose. This is yet another cynical move by the state, using public safety as some kind of political football. (I know, ILL-ANNOY is a cynical and crooked state...)

“Just wait till they try giving out IOU EBT cards...”

Don’t know if stiffing the lottery winners instead of them will save them. I would do a GENUINELY MASSIVE amount of rioting and mayhem if I was owed hundreds of thousands of dollars and was not getting paid.

Reason 6,355 to LEAVE ILLINOIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. BUT IF YOU LIVE NORTH OF 95th STREET DO NOT COME HERE.

So maybe Illinois resident should not pay their state tax until their household budgets are solved, priorities include paying for kids college, liquor, the cable bill, depression therapy if they are Bears fans, heating, and the membership to the fitness club.

The governor is trying to balance the budget and the democrat controlled legislature is refusing.

Good for the governor.

“That leaves 29 cents available for the Common School Fund.”

They swore up and down that every nickel was for the children.

Those lying bastards...

It doesn’t do any good for the people of Illinois to elect a Republican governor and keep electing all Ds to the State House. Of course, the governor will be frustrated at every point. I understand that the politics in IL are crooked, but can’t they get some good candidates?
