While I agree with you we’ll have to let them build on for another 18 months because of Obama, who’ll do nothing.

Most likely, President Trump will have to deal with it. As long as he deals firmly and strongly, such a war can be avoided and our will prevails. Or, if not Trump, then President Cruz!?

Much worse would be President JEB. But worst of all, from the standpoint of the United States essential strategic interests, would be a President Clinton or Sanders.

The citizens of this country, by electing any democrat to lead it again—or continue leading it, are driving themselves to the slaughterhouse.

Unfortunately, they’re taking the rest of us with them!

While I’m not at all happy about China doing this, and see it as the naked aggression it is, like in 1935 when the Ruhr was reclaimed and armed by the Germans, can anyone say they didn’t see this coming when the foreign policy of America is headed by Obama? Just like the Middle East today—who “let” Putin in but Obama and Hillary?

So much hinges on the next election!

Seems like we need global warming as letting the seas rise defeats one enemy.

“That way they can claim the area is there’s and ban freedom of navigation in the area.”

No more valid than claiming all the water within a 12 mile limit of an offshore oil rig.”

That may be true but it’s a different story when your going to court to fight about it.Fighting a country with a billion people who are modernizing militarily everyday is quite a different matter all together.

Especially when you have a non-resident running the show is another .

The Chinese want to build some islands it is none of our business just as it would be none of their business if we built a few islands. These islands are not off our coast, or in our waters.

And it’s worth nuclear war to keep it that way.

You need to study and learn.

A nuclear war over some artificial islands? Are you nuts?

I don’t want to learn what you are selling bud!

Let them enjoy their islands. But state the US policy is that only natural land features will be treated as part of that nation for territorial claim purposes. Sail through often.

Exactly!

Lines on a map. The Philippines and Vietnam should build some artificial islands too. And we can sail our ships right by them waving at the Chinese.

Meanwhile Obama throws a lavish state dinner for the current dictator of China.

Yeah, in an interview, I head Zero make the comment about that ... He told the reporter that he had served them HIS food at the White House. Everything is his!

I know you were being sarcastic, but the answer is YES! They have no EPA, no yapping protesters to deal with, no lawsuits from greenies and no rules for approving funding. Look what they have done in one year.

I'd be more concerned about Tsunami. I read tsunami can also be made with big bombs.

Imagine, if you will, there were an economic or military need for such island building by the U.S.

EPA and Army Corps of Engineering permitting, if it were permitted at all, would take 15 years, and Hundreds of Millions of dollars in Environmental Impact Studies before one single teaspoon of sand would move.

Those artificial islands are not the issue at hand.

Free navigation of the seas is what's at stake.

If you don't think that's in the core strategic interests of the United States, there's no hope for you.

Ah baloney....ships don’t sail on islands. I understand the issue but don’t agree it is all that important to our interests as these island and Chinese on them don’t stop our ships form sailing these waters even if that is what the Chinese intend.

There are other way to skin Chinese cats than start a war with them over these artificial islands.

“I think a small nuke, or even a heavy load of well placed bunker busters would send it slurping under the surface.”

Just like a floating carrier.

The response to nuking one would be incoming ICBMs
