That favorite Sting song came to mind when I started reading the thread, and apparently it did to two other posters as well...

Al Gore: Earth's Interior 'Extremely Hot, Several Million Degrees'
By Noel Sheppard | November 18, 2009

CONAN O'BRIEN, HOST: ...to create energy, and it sounds to me like an evil plan by Lex Luthor to defeat Superman. Can you, can you tell me, is this a viable solution, geothermal energy?
AL GORE: It definitely is, and it's a relatively new one. People think about geothermal energy - when they think about it at all - in terms of the hot water bubbling up in some places, but two kilometers or so down in most places there are these incredibly hot rocks, 'cause the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot ...

The physics and astronomy website Physlink contests Gore's absurd claim:
It is approximately 4000°C [7230°F] at the centre of the Earth.
What are the signs of a star about to go super nova?
And the heretic deniers must be tortured by the repeated chanting of “Ni! Ni! Ni!’
definitely caused by man’s greedy habits - carbon emissions??
ROTFL
Good question, few answers, but good read:

I liked the scene at the end where the man touched the surface of the sun.
It must be the cause of writing in rainbow letters...
Betcha that is where the missing Clinton emails are.
Thanks LucyT, extra to APoD.
I believe they have to ‘burn’ through all of their ‘fuel’, and then they light up, or something like that. Many believe that it has, or is about to happen to Betelgeuse {one of the shoulders of Orion} Of course, if it happened tomorrow, we wouldn’t know for a few hundred or so years, given the distance.
