Hallucinations, often associated with psychotic disorders, may result from a natural process used by the brain to make sense of the world, say scientists.
Visions and sounds that do not exist can be generated by the brains habit of predicting what it expects to experience, filling in missing gaps in reality, the research shows. It is this ability that allows you to recognise a fast-moving black shape in your living room as the cat, even though it was little more than a blur.

Really? Well, if the human brain was designed there must be a designer. And the only entity that could have designed the human brain is God. Thus, according to this article scientists are arguing that the human brain proves there is a God.
That would explain the Democrat Party all right.
HUMAN BRAIN MAY BE DESIGNED.....
I knew that.
Hallucinations must be tied to dreaming. All dreaming is, are unconscious hallucinations.
I so agree with you....every democrat walking has hallucinations of how great they think they are....
May Be = Scientist
Man Made Climate Change = Settled Science
Earth is Flat = Settled Science
Earth is Center of Universe - Settle Science
Great, great point.
There was an interesting comment at the article...
Even blind people dream, so having your brain fill in the gaps, when you have never seen an object, is not that much of a break though..
AND HOW!
Completely delusional lunatics last night. I fear for the nation.
LOL! I used to have this (or a similar one) posted on the file cabinet next to my desk back in the day. Actually I had the conservative one posted too. Notice there is no sector for rational thinking anywhere?
Hallucinating is very normal. Civil engineers look at empty land and see roads and bridges and get paid well for it.
Over the summer, I had major heart surgery and, during the surgery, suffered a major stroke. Not the best day of my life.
At some point when I came to, there was a nurse talking to me and she and another nurse were adjusting me in the bed. This scene played out literally dozens of times and I was powerless to stop it. When I explained this to my neurologist some weeks later, he explained that this was “confabulation” - that my mind had no idea what the hell was going on and just played that scene on a loop because it at least made sense to me.
This incident strengthened my long-held belief that there really doesn’t exist such a thing as “objective reality,” but that our brains dictate how we perceive our environs.
You hurt my feelings...I’m a victim of imagecritiqueism. Globalwarming.
Hope you’re okay now. Funny how the brain can alter reality without you (maybe) inputting anything. Saw a LOT of altered reality last night on cnn. :>}
Today is the five-month anniversary of the surgery and the stroke. I’m still very much in recovery, but much, much better than I was even this time last month. Thank you!
“This incident strengthened my long-held belief that there really doesnt exist such a thing as objective reality, but that our brains dictate how we perceive our environs.”
And our brains/bodies themselves are a creation of that perception...
Yeah, that or Roku’s Basilik...We won’t know until the dirt nap.
