“U.S. pulling missile defense batteries from Turkey”
What about those Cold War ICBMs? Are they still there?

And if Turkey goes, they’ll get Constantinople, Black Sea, Marmara, Eastern Med. And Greece won’t be far behind, the economic problems they get forced into made them weak.
Seems like we fought hard to get Patriot batteries in Turkey in the first place.

I spent a large chunk of my childhood in Istanbul when my father was an adviser to the Turkish Naval Academy on Buyuk Ada in Marmara. I have had a long affection for the country and have followed things Turkish and Moslem pretty closely. I have experienced deepening frustration at the rise of Erdogan and his suppression of the military, in its Constitutional role as Protector of the Republic, and the courts and the American disdain for American and Turkish interests there, including especially the interests of the very pro-American and substantial middle class that exists thanks to the reforms of Ataturk. Our greatest allies in the region next to Israel should be the middle class in Iran and in Turkiye. We probably could not have influenced the rise or policies of Erdogan and he has not moved against the urban middle class yet but we could have supported the Iranians when they rose in the cities against the mullahs. Instead Baraq Hussein encouraged the mullahs.
