I noticed the ‘I’ll vote for whomever the GOP puts up’ crowd is thinning here at FR.

I notice the "Cruz or Lose" crowd has become much less vocal, too.

Currently, Trump is way ahead, and while he perhaps does not meet the most rigid tests of ideological purity, is on the correct side on the most important issue (immigration), plus is conservative-enough on the other issues. Therefore, Trump (as the currently likely nominee) is acceptable to most of the conservative base.

The thing is those who are criticized for demanding ‘ideological purity’ have been right all along.

Its all the squishes who’s only requirement is the R by the candidate’s name who’ve got us into the fix we’re in.
