That was brought home to me recently as I was looking at a globe of the earth at my mother's house. There are VAST areas of the earth where there is basically nobody.

Heck, all you need to understand that is to fly out West (California) during the day and have a window seat. There’s a whole lot of nothing in large parts of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and Utah, just to pick some states.
