On Friday, we reported the latest provocation in what has truly become a very dangerous, if largely pointless, staring contest between Beijing and Washington over Chinas reclamation of land in The South China Sea.
Responding to suggestions that the US was set to sail warships around the islands Beijing has constructed atop reefs in the Spratlys, China served noticed that it would never allow any country to violate China's territorial waters and airspace in the Spratly Islands, in the name of protecting freedom of navigation and overflight. This was simply a formalized version of the more concise phrasing the PLA navy used when they instructed the pilots flying a US spy plane to Go now! when it ventured too close to Fiery Cross earlier this year.
Its not immediately clear what China intends to do with the islands and further, its not entirely clear why anyone should necessarily care if Beijing wants to build sand castles in the middle of the ocean, but then again, for Americas regional allies the land reclamation efforts look a lot an attempt to build a series of military outposts by creating sovereign territory where there was none thereby effectively redrawing maritime boundaries and so, big brother in Washington is set to step in in order to protect vital shipping lanes.
Of course having already said that the navy plans to sail ships into the waters around the islands, the US can ill-afford to allow Chinas we wont tolerate that pronouncement to deter the Pentagon because the optics around that would be terrible at a time when the world is already questioning the strength and resolve of the US military. So the ships will indeed sail.

Obucketoshiite is not messing with some third world shiite hole.
This is a real world power he is messing with and is dragging us closer and closer to a real confrontation.
If he ever figures where and how to draw a red line on the water, we are all screwed.
For what purpose? To anniliate the rest of our fleet? Steady Navy!
Hopefully he won’t hand over these navy ships to the Chinese, like he essentially did with the military hardware to Isis.
Oooooh what a tough guy.
I'm all for protecting freedom of navigation. I'm just against using OUR ships & sailors for targets in a Chinese shooting gallery.
I think a better plan would be an overwhelming show of force composed of at least several or more ships from ever nation sharing a similar interest in freedom of navigation (e.g. Japan, SK, Britain, Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, France, Canada, Mexico, ...).
Obama has already backed down to the Chinese when he (Obama) allowed the Chinese to build the artificial Islands and then proclaim them sovereign Chinese land! Kind of like shutting the barn door after the horses got out!
More bull$hit from the old media!
Did you post the entirety of the article, because the link doesn’t work?
I mean, the link doesn’t bring me to the article.
You yankee need to protect our ships, so yankee can get nice China trinkets. On sale! We ship yankee poonjab doggy yumyums...Yankee and doggy be happy and proud. You go shop now yankee!
I read on an earlier thread that no US Navy has sailed the area since 2012.....should have sailed through on a regular basis.

Obama is trying his best to bring Al Mahdi with as much chaos as possible
You’re right.
The US has already overflown the island alot with P-8 Poseidons. The chinese sound very unprofessional when warning the US. Oneeven says You Go! Go! LMAO. One of the Americans on board chuckles at what hes hearing on the radio. The americans on the other hand sound very professional and handles it correctly. Here is one of the videos a few weeks ago.
I would have responded to the chinese, I will take a number 1 with extra soy. LMAO. Here is the vid.

Great. Let’s fight the Russians in Syria and while we’re at it, take on the Chinese in the Pacific.
Because, after all, our Navy and Army are at the smallest size since 1939, or earlier...
(Is there anyone with any sense in Washington...?)
They know the consequences.

Apologies, but it was certainly certainly there at the time.
ZH, in their article, linked to an article concerning the matter at the WSJ. I see it's still up at the WSJ:
If Americans are so GD professional how is it we’re trillions in debt to the Communist Chinese while we decline and they build up?
