Thanks for your insight.

I don’t blame them a bit for their strategy. Obama has not been much of an ally, and anyone can see he’s a faithless friend going forward.

I hope this doesn’t become a replay of the 1914 Balkans, but the Kurds aren’t responsible for that. They are in a very difficult situation.

I think it is a 1990's version of the Balkans. Iraq and Yugoslavia were very much alike. Politically constructed, made up of several ethnicities, controlled by strong dictators, the government and military controlled by an ethnic minority. Strongman gone, ethnic strife reignites.

Making the Russians pay for their moves by having a proxy bloody their nose a bit is okay. The Russians won't get too alarmed by that. Hanging out our own troops by running cargo drops to the rebels is a bad idea. The Russians will have very little problem lighting a cargo plane up with a SAM and blaming it on somebody else. They didn't have any trouble shooting down an airliner in the Ukraine, and they even used a system that could have only come from Russia.
