CNN)U.S. military cargo planes gave 50 tons of ammunition to rebel groups overnight in northern Syria, using an air drop of 112 pallets as the first step in the Obama Administration's urgent effort to find new ways to support those groups.
Details of the air mission over Syria were confirmed by a U.S. official not authorized to speak publicly because the details have not yet been formally announced.
C-17s, accompanied by fighter escort aircraft, dropped small arms ammunition and other items like hand grenades in Hasakah province in northern Syria to a coalition of rebels groups vetted by the US, known as the Syrian Arab Coalition.

First of all, the headline shouldn't have been changed at all.
The problem is Assad, bad as he is and bad as Russia wanting him there is, is the least bad option for us re: Syria.
Assad is very close with Iran and Hezbollah. Both are doing everything they can including sending massive amounts of money and soldiers to keep Assad in power. Both Iran and Hezbollah are established, very powerful, mortal enemies of the United States who have killed many Americans and stand to gain tremendously if Assad remains in power. Are you so sure that keeping that Russia - Iran - Hezbollah axis intact is a better alternative than what you outlined? On the one hand you have a multitude of terrorist/rebel groups that would fill a vacuum in Syria, on the other you have leave Assad in power and greatly empower Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah (who are arming to destroy Israel at an alarming rate along with their sponsors, Iran).
Russia is our most significant global adversary right now, with Iran and/or China coming in a close second. Anything that bleeds Russia or damages their aims of resurrecting whatever they can of the old Soviet Union is probably worth doing - just as it was in the 80's.
Not exactly sure where all the Putin cheerleaders are coming from, but they are woefully misguided. And no, Trump would not "get along great" with Putin unless he, like our current incompetent occupant of the White House, also gave him pretty much everything he wants on a silver platter.
Maybe that’s where all the 22LR is going?? HA
As others keep noting: they’re ALL bad. The ones that aren’t so much worse can’t possibly hold back the ones that are. Every option is bad. Yes, Assad is bad due to (A) being a brutal dictator, and (B) rather friendly with our major formal enemies. Problem is, if he is overthrown then we end up with ISIS which is its own major form of badness.
ALL THE OPTIONS SUCK.
The only “positive” option is for US to go in like Iraq, this time with an actual plan to fill the subsequent power vacuum - and risk full-on war with Russia in the process. No way in He11 will the Obama do that.
Popcorn? Swim out past the breakers, and watch the world die?
I recognize Putin for what he is, America's greatest military adversary at this time. Putin believes the single worst thing that has happened in generations is the fall of the Soviet Union, and he means to reconstitute it as best he can.
A stronger President might have confronted Putin in Ukraine and stopped his adventure in the Middle East before it even got started, but unfortunately we are saddled with an incompetent and weak Obama presidency. Putin sees that weakness and seeks to fill the vacuum and exploit those weaknesses.
And finally ending up back in our own country to arm the many muzzie terror units hiding in the cities.
Every choice sucks and Trump sucks too, got it.
What was the original headline?
yes the lyin’g king is that stupid.
but yet he is smarter than the fools who voted for him twice.
I recall in the early days of Obama....a freighter unloaded a big consignment of Ammo at a remote Alaska destination for a local gun store....
The ammo was sold off by the pallet in a few days.
I guess when you can see Russia from your back yard.....
The Rooskies are going to drop more than 50 tons of ammo too!
Just in a very different way.
:-)
SYRIA: NOW AS FLAT AS IT’S BREAD!
The thread headline is now corrected.
Once upon a time it read something along the lines of “US delivers 50 tons of ammo to the enemy”. That was my original objection, a deceptive headline.
I will be so happy when the Kenyan is no longer pResident.
I wish they would give anything to Americans, but our own citizens are only there to be milked for everything. Peons at best.
Absolutely sickening. Hopefully a SU-25 can hit those pallets very quickly. Ammo, to jihadis, from a C-17, escorted by USAF fighters. All dsent by US President named Hussein.
On 9/12 could you imagine this?
Puny human/ETL is that you?
“Once upon a time it read something along the lines of US delivers 50 tons of ammo to the enemy. “
Accurate. I cannot think of any other way to characterize a Saudi sponsored jihadi group that is loved by McCain and Obama and Turkey.
Obama just armed Muslims to kill Christians and non Sunni minorities.
And Assad’s forces also. The Russians are killing the rebels; Assad’s forces will take what they have; the ones that don’t join ISIS. So I guess everything we have sent over there will be dived up between opposing forces. Your tax dollars at work to destroy the whole world before it is all over — well, maybe it will be all over at the same time.
So we’re continuing to fund a proxy war against Russian interests... great.
