Historically, shutdowns don't last long.

But, if a shutdown does go on it will have an effect.

Plus, if the shutdown flows from the Hastert Rule, it will have more of an effect. The budget showdown in Sept was avoided because Boehner ignored the Hastert Rule and passed a 2 month extension.

We don't know who will be speaker in Dec, but if he honors the Hastert Rule, which is what the Freedom Caucus wants, it will probably go on and on and on.
