Last fall, federal agents raided the home and office of Robin L. Raphel in search of proof that she, a seasoned member of Americas diplomatic corps, was spying for Pakistan. But officials now say the spying investigation has all but fizzled, leaving the Justice Department to decide whether to prosecute Ms. Raphel for the far less serious charge of keeping classified information in her home.
The fallout from the investigation has in the meantime seriously damaged Ms. Raphels reputation, built over decades in some of the worlds most volatile countries.
If the Justice Department declines to file spying charges, as several officials said they expected, it will be the latest example of American law enforcement agencies bringing an espionage investigation into the public eye, only to see it dissipate under further scrutiny. Last month, the Justice Department dropped charges against a Temple University physicist who had been accused of sharing sensitive information with China. In May, prosecutors dropped all charges against a government hydrologist who had been under investigation for espionage.
Ms. Raphel, in negotiations with the government, has rejected plea deals and has been adamant that she face no charges, according to current and former government officials, particularly because the Justice Department has been criticized in recent years for handing out inconsistent punishments to American officials who mishandle classified information.
Both the Justice Department and a lawyer for Ms. Raphel, Amy Jeffress, declined to comment.
The Raphel case has also been caught in the crosswinds of Americas tempestuous relationship with Pakistan, a strong Cold War alliance that has frayed since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks amid recriminations between Washington and Islamabad.

If they don’t file charges against her then Hitlery gets a pass; i.e., “See, no big deal, even little guys aren’t prosecuted over this” and opposed to “Heck they prosecuted a little person for the same charges against Hitlery and Hitlery wasn’t prosecuted.”
The jokes write themselves don’t they?

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Hillary wouldn’t do anything like that.
“...for the far less serious charge of keeping classified information in her home.”
So now taking classified material is sort of like stealing office supplies, everyone does it, so no big deal.
We are certainly living in an insane world.
Not only do they write themselves but then we elect them to high public office.
Maybe Ms. Raphel can call Hillary as a character witness.
This is a CRIME? Paging Hillary!
With the NYT defending her, it’s a cinch she’s guilty as sin.
They haven’t gotten over the Rosenbergs yet.
“Justice Department to decide whether to prosecute Ms. Raphel for the far less serious charge of keeping classified information in her home”
As long as Obama doesn’t prosecute Hillary for the same crime, he’ll never again be able to prosecute anyone for keeping classified information at home or using private email for transmitting classified information: it would raise too many questions as to why others are being prosecuted for the same crimes Hillary committed but wasn’t prosecuted for.
This was the gal who advised Afghan general Massoud to surrender to the Taliban in the 90s. He was the guy who led the Northern Alliance and who was assassinated by alQaeda on Sept 9 just a couple days before alqaeda destroyed the Twin Towers
Amy Jeffres is Eric Holder's assistant...and more...wife of the Benghazi judge.
No wonder this eavesdropping storyline has been in the news... Comey, Mueller and the Islamic and Marxist groups are all buzzed because the 702 renewal that’s supposed to come up for voting this year. I notice there are comments from Eric Holder’s advisor Amy Jeffress... but no mention that Amy Jeffress is the wife of Benghazi judge Casey Cooper. [Isn’t that cool how in gov circles the lib husbands and wives never share the same last name? ] http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rookie-judge-to-preside-over-benghazi-trial/2014/07/07/2e5ac5d0-0609-11e4-a0dd-f2b22a257353_story.html 37 posted on 6/30/2017, 3:41:17 AM by piasa [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 1 | View Replies | Report Abuse]
To: piasa Benghazi Judge Cooper- a rookie- husband of the aide of the Obama DOJ’s Eric “The Contemptible Perjurer” Holder, was on Obama’s transition team. Cooper’s friend from college - Yale- was none other than John Rice.
John Rice is the husband of Susan Rice... who was the one chosen to peddle the bogus video tale in the aftermath of Benghazi. And she also happens to be the one whose records are being held back in the stash of docs the Obama admin directed to be sent to Obama’s not-yet-built presidential library to be kept sealed from the public for years. 38 posted on 6/30/2017, 9:01:03 AM by piasa
