The chances of escalation from a proxy war to outright war just went to 11 on the Spinal Tap amplifier of sabre-rattling. A day after British and NATO pilots were reportedly given the green light to take drastic action against Russian fighter jets if they come under threat during missions over Iraq, Interfax reports that the Russian Defense Ministry has demanded clarification. Senior defence sources say it is just a matter of time before our fighters are involved in a deadly confrontation with Russian jets.
The Chinese, it appears, are wholeheartedly behind Putin's efforts, judging by the following puff-piece from Xinhua (unofficially China's government mouthpiece)...

I have no problem with legitimate criticism, no whatsoever, nor am I a blind patriot. I see the risks in this. Personally I don’t think we will shoot down any planes, its a show of strength, which Russia respects. They have no time for weakness.
Perhaps I thought more here would support the UK or at least be less aggressive in their criticism. Given we are ally no1 supposedly.

I interpret your statement “The air combat would be against Russian jets, not Russian pilots.” to be similar to the left’s rants regarding guns, in that people do not kill people, guns do.
So yes, from the left’s perspective, we will merely be sending our planes to take out Russian planes, so simple isn’t it?
I would hope the US and Britain would join with Russia and exterminate what remains of the murderous bastards. Once that’s done, we can gather around a big table - does the UN have a big round table - and work out our differences as civilized peoples. :-)
