ROCKUMENTARY: OCTOBER 10, 1960

#6: The Drifters: “Save the Last Dance for Me”

A few years ago, I covered the songbook of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, one of the better teams in the Brill Building. This was their most famous and successful song. The producers were Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller, and the use of strings shows their exceptional touch. That’s Ben King on lead vocals.

That’s it until tomorrow night! Cue the Rockumentary theme on Turntable #1!

It’s funny...when I am walking Lynn-Dah-The-Dog, we often encounter neighbors with their pets. I always stop and scratch the ears of a friendly pup, and Lynn-Dah becomes instantly JEALOUS.

So I sing to her...

Don’t forget who’s tasking you home,
And in whose arms you’re gonna be...
So Lynn-Dah,
Save the last dance for me.

And she calms right down!

LOL!
