The house did some good things in that era, but on the really important things: the border, affirmative Action, Facing down Clinton...he was no where to be found. People forget. I can hear you say that with a lisp. He was run out of the House by a coup led by Boehner. The reason: The republicans lost 5 House seats in the mid term elections. It was an election that the wussy Republicans thought they would pick up House seats. Most pundits and republicans felt that it was a backlash against Clinton's impeachment and, in turn, the wussy republicans led by Boehner sought revenge and revolted against Newt. Yes, you read it correctly. That disgusting Boehner chased a brilliant and bold thinker from the Speakership.
