Every time there’s an article pushing Universal Background Checks, they use the “prevents mentally disturbed people and criminals from getting a gun”.
Then there’s the usual flurry of commenters agreeing with them.
At that point I pose this question: “If the real concern is to prevent nutters or criminals from buying a gun, why do they want the make, model, caliber, type and serial number of every one bought? I can buy two or more firearms with only one background check, but I have to supply the above info for each gun?”
I have NEVER has gotten a cogent counter-post.
I doubt you will, because that is the dirty little secret on the matter.
Those ‘checks’ are supposed to be with regard to the purchaser, not the gun.
But the collection of that data puts the LIE to that.
