Report: David Dewhurst will pay campaign debts from senate race (Texas)

Former Lt. Governor David Dewhurst has agreed to pay off $800,000 of debt from his failed bid for the U.S. Senate in 2012, according to a report in The Texas Tribune.

According to a September letter obtained by the Tribune, Dewhurst has agreed to pay the debt over the next year but he said that he was not legally obligated to pay the money to his vendors.

“While there is obviously no legal obligation that I personally pay the vendors invoices, and while a few of you let me down with messaging and media that was counter-productive, plus there were mistakes in polling, we all went through a tough time,” Dewhurst wrote in the letter obtained by the Tribune. “Therefore, I have decided to pay the vendor invoices in full.”

“It’s everyone elses fault I ran up a large debt.”

Sounds like a typical politician.

I wonder if I can use that logic for my taxes, mortgage, and car loan.

The radio debate between this creep and Cruz sealed his defeat.
Slimy career politician, no different than one wearing a D tag.

Why is it so many ‘Republicans’ in politics embarrass the rest of us??? I am the only Conservative in my immediate family; two brothers and a sister are Leftists. I was the only one who didn’t have an outstanding debt to my parents when they passed. Republicans take responsibility, pay their debts, work hard and live an honest life. Maybe we should be vetting Republican candidates better.

Is it safe to assume, with him paying off past political debts, that he is fixing to run again for something?

He aint stupid enough to take on Cornyn, Abbott or CRUZ again, is he?

That’s the only reason...he just told us that he has no legal obligation to pay it back, so why would he - UNLESS he was planning to run and didn’t want an opponent to criticize him about the debt.

I really hate this guy, he’s PURE establishment. Oh, he makes nice noises about being the opposite (don’t they all?), but once in office it is SSDD.

His campaign is probably a corporation and it is the corporation that owes the debt. If I were a business, I would think twice before giving credit to a political campaign. Most of them seem to pile up unpaid debt that never gets paid.

It sounds like he’s looking to take on Cruz.

The old 'You should have known better than to loan money to someone like me, shame on you' defense?

I would suspect he is doing this only because he intends to run for the Senate again to replace Cruz.

Reminds me of Carly who didn’t pay her previous campaign debts until just before she announced that she was going to run for President.

Except for plumbing parts, no difference between Carly and Dewhurst IMO. Both need to get out and stay out of politics.
