BA tells ‘Captain Kirk’ Salmond exactly where he can boldly go
UK Daily Mail ^ | 10/3/2015 | Glen Owen

As leader of the SNP, Alex Salmond tried to boldly go where none of his predecessors had gone before and win independence for Scotland. But the former First Minister overreached himself when he booked on to a British Airways flight as Star Trek’s James T. Kirk, captain of the starship Enterprise. Mr Salmond faced embarrassment when BA flatly refused to let him on the plane at Heathrow because the name on his ticket – belonging to the character played by William Shatner in the seminal science-fiction series – didn’t match that in his passport. Only a series of frantic calls by the politician persuaded the airline that Mr Salmond was not a deranged impostor and could be allowed on board. Last night Mr Salmond, who won the Westminster seat of Gordon for the SNP at the last Election, explained that the mix-up occurred because he often travelled under a false name for security reasons – and as a keen ‘Trekkie’ he liked to use the pseudonym. He told The Mail on Sunday: ‘It was all sorted out. I just wanted BA to “Beam me up, Scotty.”

That’s a coincidence, because Hillary’s Secret Service code name is “Scotty” (due to her ‘warped drives’ and all).

I’ve noticed that the airlines have been insisting that the name on the ticket must exactly match the passport, the middle name(s) included, for several years. Anyone but Salmond or another “Do you know who I am?!” passenger would have been put through Hell for trying a stunt like this.
