Nice to see ludicrous minimum wage laws having such a beneficial effect on the economy.
Not unusual with mature chain store growth. Thousands of stores; some have got to not be doing well, and with increased costs, natural or by government order, the bottom 5-10% of under performers will close. Culling of the heard.
another sure sign of a vibrant growing economy.
Troy Aikman and Jerry Jones just opened a bunch in the Dallas area. I bet they’ll avoid the axe.
Some people refuse to go there after the Dunkin CEO came out in support for illegal amnesty in 2014.
Hopefully more people eating real food and not that pre packaged, pre cooked crap not even made on site at each store. Its possible and not even all that difficult once you make it a priority.
I never would have guessed that were real eggs in DD’s breakfast pucks.
I sure am glad all the businesses that are closing and laying off thousands apiece all across the country lately hasn’t made the needle move on the
5.1 % unemployment rate../s
They’re such damn liars.
I like DD. One of my favorite donuts, the Sugar Raised. Yeast donut w/ granulated sugar on it.
Some of the DD stores are merely outlets, product trucked in. Was disappointed one day. Obviously old donuts. Haven’t been to a DD since.
Donut tip..
Have some 1-3 day old Krispy Kreme donuts you were going to toss?
Stick them in the toaster oven. Toast til blackened on top. Eat w/ knife and fork. Almost better than fresh.
Last week I noticed one nearby, with zero customers at 7:30 a.m. Thought at the time that was strange, and wonder if competition with fast food newcomers are putting a dent into the DD business model. Even Taco Bell (yuck) is selling breakfast now.
$3.99 for a dozen eggs. Contents shrinking, prices rising.
The US government should have ZERO impact on wages - as it's an issue between the employer and employee.
Ordered the worst grilled cheese sandwich ever from DD a while back (was in a hurry doing errands)l Haven’t been back since.
I mean, how do you screw up a grilled cheese?
Dunkin’ Donuts used to be my favorite (this was before I had access to Krispy Kreme). Then one day I had a shriveled, undersized, cardboardy French Cruller. I figured I had an off batch.
Only a while ago did I find out what happened. DD stopped making the doughnuts in the shops. The old commercials with that guy getting up at 4AM “Time to make the doughnuts” is no longer applicable. The doughnuts are made in a factory and shipped out frozen. The jelly doughnuts are still passable, but French Crullers absolutely die under those conditions.
DD decided to cut costs and make their money on coffee, not doughnuts. Their coffee is okay, but so is the coffee at the Road Ranger gas station.
Great. Now we’ll be down to 5,728 of them here in NJ.
Interesting article.
BTW, DD has historically been nasty to its franchise operators. Rockford, IL lost all three years ago because of a capricious change in terms.
Drunkin’ Grown-ups......
#BlackCoffeeMatters
But then again the one DD I used to frequent in MD to buy DD coffee beans before they started selling them in the grocery store and would occasionally buy donuts or muffins from this DD franchise, but I stopped going after the franchise was bought out by an Indian family.
For one thing, the service went way down hill it became very slow and really rather rude and they were often out of most of the more popular donuts no matter the time if day and often what they had left looked like it was yesterdays leftovers. Another reason I stopped going was that the place started smelling of such bad and rank BO that it overpowered the smell of the donuts. And another reason was that none of them working the counter spoke much if any English. When ordering donuts, Id have to point to the shelf and then after she pointed to one type of donut, Id slowly say no two over and one down from that one using hand gestures to try to get her to understand.
I was very happy when a Krispy Kreme Donut shop opened nearby.
