MOST of the folks here now were NOT born here. There are very few natives. I feel safe here, but I know where to go, when to go and the reverse, when NOT to go and where NOT to go.
I think that's true of most urban areas. There aren't MORE or less "bad guys," but there are so many more people on earth now that the ratio of good/bad seems skewed.
Doesn't Florida allow people to pack? I thought I read that.
I am careful going out to my back yard at night. We have skunks and raccoon and they are NOT to be treated lightly. One big fat nasty raccoon HISSED at me. I was just going out to admire the full moon. Geez, sorry fat lady.
Good! That's a key to survival, and natives have an upper hand knowing where to go (and when). Not so when I visited other cities, and accidentally ended up in bad areas and had good fortune in getting away. As you say, always been "bad guys" out there and you need to be wary of them.
As for Florida, don't know. Tennessee must be gun friendly. One of my brothers-in-law killed himself in Tennessee a couple months ago, blew his head off with a shotgun in his truck. He had depression/mental issues. Barely got any notice, carrying guns and then killing himself in a shopping area. Not the type to harm others.
By the way, I had a skunk on my deck patio last night. Those, I avoid. When the raccoons come, which is almost nightly, they don't bother me, downright friendly (but I'm still careful not to touch them). Opossums are darn ugly.
