I am educated by your post.

Very impressive. (Seriously)

You have very quickly cut through all of the surface flack and gotten to the heart of the matter.

Where/how did you come to this understanding? I would really like to know.

I went to a lecture back in the 90’s by the assistant to Woolsey when he was CIA director. What I didn’t understand about the Russian invasion of Afghanistan was the original reasons why they did it.

The Russians were broke. It was that simple. They were facing either collapse or consolidation of the oil in the region that was controlled by their competitor in the market.

Nothing, really, has changed. Russia and Iran are completely out of options, and they both know it. Iran doesn’t trust Russia, but there is absolutely no doubt they believe their interests in the region are in complete alignment.

The irony here is that the Iranians likely want nukes NOT because of the Jews. They want them because of the Russians. What is to stop the Russians from turning on the Iranians when they are done wiping out the House of Saud and taking Iran? Iran is number 3 in terms of oil assets in the region behind SA and Russia. With both out of the way, Russia could rule it all.

There is probably a small part of Israel that hopes that actually happens. SA and Israel had been working together quite closely in intelligence efforts in the last year. This is obviously extraordinary, given the Jews aren’t exactly loved by the Sunnis. The Russians act out of their best interest.

The Iranians, however, don’t. Nobody, including probably the Russians, trusts them. However, Iran getting the bomb was probably the price of poker for any cooperation with Russia. This works because the Russians are absolutely convinced that if the Iranians felt they had to, they’d drop the bomb on the Russians without hesitation.

As for our role in any of this? We don’t have one. It’s all about supply lines, and they are too long.

Here’s what nobody has said yet: The Obama Doctrine: The United States military no longer believes it needs to sustain a war in ANY theater. That means ZERO theaters - down from one and a half, down from one, to zero.

This explains all the cuts. We have more than enough for us to defend North America. That’s all we need, in the opinion of the Obama administration.

THIS is the true legacy of Boehner and McConnell. If they have done anything, they have made it possible for Obama to deliver on his doctrine - that the American military need only be strong enough to defend its place in its region.

I’ll tell you this much - if that Iranian newsman is right, and if the Russians have an Army Group sized force in Syria, and our Conservative Congress did nothing about bringing this to the people they represent, with some sort of plan for how things are going to move going forward, then they have committed treason by aiding in the surrendering of essentially all our positions globally within the last six years.

This is why the Japanese are crapping their kimonos. Everybody has suddenly figured out they are all alone out there. Actually, that’s a succinct way of framing the Obama Doctrine - “Fend for yo’self, suckas”

This just in:

The Pentagon’s top official dealing with Russia has just resigned, according to Politico.

Evelyn Farkas, deputy assistant secretary of defence for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, will leave at the end of October, a senior defence official told Politico.

Ms Farkas’s responsibilities included dealing with Russia on Syria and Ukraine.

I’d like to buy her coffee spiked with sodium pentathol and ask why she announced today of all days.

I’m emailing Drudge about it.
