He probably thinks all men are "basically good". He is likely an atheist so God and Satan mean nothing to him. He also has obviously never studied history. Muslims have murdered hundreds of millions and so have the Communists/Nazis so it's not like mass murder hasn't happened before on a grand scale even in very recent history.
