What's wrong with shutting down an out of control government which is spending us into oblivion? If only 13% of the whole is affected by the shutdown what is really lost? We might actually see the government becoming less wasteful! Who in their right mind doesn't think there is enough government activity which is inefficient, corrupt, or pork that could be eliminated without there being the slightest impact on government services? Of course, the powers that be would select only those activities to shut down which would cause the greatest outrage. As an example, when a local school budget is defeated by the voters, the first thing they shut down is the after school sports programs. What they should do is eliminate second tier administrative personnel, assistant principals and the like. The government could do the same thing by eliminating whole departments or agencies like Education, energy and EPA.

So shut down the government. Ignore the wailing and gnashing of teeth of the liberal media that 40% or less of the population believe in the first place. Nothing else has worked in the past. Let's try something new and be serious about it.

Not even close to true. It’s five years minimum to be vested, and you can’t start receiving payments immediately upon retirement unless you are age 62 or have served for 20 years. So one term in the Senate and two and a half in the House to be eligible. And the amount is about one third of full salary for 20 years of service. Five years of service would only make you about $12,000 a year, and you wouldn’t be able to collect before age 62 unless you have at least 20 years of service.
