I find it interesting that several SLAVE states that did not join the SOUTH still had slavery under the UNION banner.

The states were..
Maryland 1864 slavery abolished.
Missouri 1865.
Break away West Virginia very pro-Union gave up slavery in 1865.
Washington DC 1862 (not a state)
Delaware Dec 18, 1865
Kentucky Dec 18, 1865.

So, after the end of the Civil War, the UNION Stars and Stripes flag still protected Slavery for eight months!

The Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in Union Controlled areas of the Confederacy.

If I am in error I’m sure some FReeper will correct me.
