I wonder how many people realize the Indian Tribes (Except the Pawnee and Crow tribes) went to war against the US because they were told they would get a better deal from the Confederate states.
Half breed George Bent was believed to be a Confederate agent stirring up the tribes. He joined the Confederacy and fought several battles in Missouri and Arkansas. Later he was with Black Kettle’s band of Southern Cheyenne who later met their demise at Sand Creek. George survived.

The Indians would come in and make peace in winter, live on US beef and commodities, then in spring go back on the warpath when the grass was tall enough to support a war pony.
Cherokees, Muskogee, Seminole, and Choctaws also joined the Confederacy. Cherokee General Stand Watie was the last Confederate general to surrender.
