Yes...I heard Obama asked for the meeting as well....and once again Putin is obliging .....Putin has said all along that dialogue must be and Obama’s always declined.
BTW Merkel is supporting Putin’s plans for Syria and that of including Assad. The sticking point that so far Obama will not go with since in doing that would make deposing Assad history.
I’ve been listening to some of Putins interviews for weeks so this is was pretty much what I expected as well.

Now that Putin is acting decisively in the ME, Obama needs the appearance of doing something. [Notice how Obama UN speech emphasized need to defeat ISIS in the ME. The profound gulf between Obama’s words and actions are tragic]
After the meeting, Obama will say that Putin is recalcitrant and isolating himself from the international community.
