The family of 14-year-old Muslim student Ahmed Mohamed is planning to take legal action against the school for calling police after a teacher discovered a “homemade clock” that looked eerily similar to an explosive device, while questions continue to be raised about whether the incident was a “purposeful hoax.”
Amid comments from electronics experts who say it appears that Mohamed simply took apart a 1970s era alarm clock and reassembled it in a pencil box, Judge Andrew Napolitano said the family may face charges if the incident is proven to be a publicity stunt.
If this was part of a purposeful stunt and if the parents were involved in this and if everybody from Mark Zuckerberg to President Obama fell for this, this is not good, Napolitano said in an appearance Monday on “The Kelly File.”
After being arrested, Mohamed was invited by Obama to bring his clock to the White House, and Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, invited the student to his headquarters.
As a result of the media uproar over the incident, legal and scholarship funds were set up for Mohamed, resulting in thousands of dollars being donated — which Napolitano said could bring more troubles for the family.
If the parents were involved in the hoax, now you now have a fraud going on because money has been collected on false pretenses, he said.
The Fox News senior judicial analyst said all the attention over the case is because the student is Muslim.
“This is people overreacting because of his last name, or his skin color, or the atmosphere of fear, he told host Megyn Kelly.
We saw a clock, we assume its dangerous,” Napolitano added. “The kid who made the clock, or brought it in, has a Muslim ancestry. I wish race could be out of this, but all of that goes aside if this was some sort of a purposeful stunt.
I hope they go to court. There will be a whole lot of inconvenient facts that will be uncovered. But with the President and his party siding with this family, the most likely scenario is a settlement out of court and more taxpayer money going to these hoaxters.
Dictionary definition of fraud: wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
The more I hear about this case, the more convinced I am that it was a deliberate fraud. Just for starts, I’m no electronic genius, but I still know that pulling a clock apart and putting it in a new box is not “building” a clock. Although I suppose it could be a brainy kid making fun of his elders by pulling such an obvious scam — anyone with a techie gene is going to see immediately what he has done, which is likely what happened with the teacher who told him to put it away and don’t mess around with it in school.
I would call that a form of fraud, but trying to make your teachers look dumb in front of you and your buddies is a very different thing from trying to convince the elders that you’re being unjustly abused. Either way, the kid needs to be held accountable, but I would call the second a crime (because he is actively trying to collect money), while the first would be more of a misdemeanor.
If family accepts funds for a hoax is what the judge said is fraud,
Ahmed's "invention":
Getting others to donate funds they believed they were giving under one issue but that were given under false pretense would constitute harm to their finances and trust. Hopefully it all must be returned and punishment meted out.
That’s out of deference to the Muslim investment in f-x.
This is a hoax, should have been investigated before all the reaction that has put this family exactly where they planned to be. In the NEWS, going to the UN, Presidential recognition, Questioning racism (it is actually not racism, per se, but a matter of skin color) and my inconveniencing electrons by typing this...
Irving PD statement
In an early interview, the kid admitted it looked like a bomb and that’s why he put a cable around the metal box instead of using the locking latch.
His older sister was suspended from school when she supposedly claimed to have said she was going to blow up the school. She wears a hijab and whines about American culture. Pack them all back to whatever turd world hole dad and uncle crawled out of.
Or his daddy and uncle.
Clock summit.
My muslim faith - call to prayer most beautiful sound - standing by his muslim brothers - the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of islam - and Moo’s all this for a damned flag.
Obama didn’t fall for it. He wouldn’t have cared if the kid brought in dynamite. He’s just always looking for an opportunity to side with the wrong side. Anyone whose aim is destruction and dividing and intimidating is A OKAY in his book.
