Chinese buy $5.3 billion in Iowa soybeans
By Rod Boshart
DES MOINES | Representatives of the soybean industry and Chinese trading partners signed contracts Thursday valued at $5.3 billion.
Leaders of a large commercial delegation from China and officials from the Iowa Soybean Association and the U.S. Soybean Export Council were on hand for an official signing ceremony involving more than a dozen contracts to purchase soy products equaling 13.8 million metric tons in the 12-month marketing year running through Aug. 31, according to information provided by Gov. Terry Branstad office.
According to the Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa farmers produce 13 million to 15 million metric tons of soybeans a year.
Branstad, speaking to a symposium that included the 49-member Chinese delegation, said trade between Iowa and China has dramatically increased over the past decade with 30 percent of the soybeans produced in Iowa now going to China.

Par for the course. Why not, though, focus on trade rules you can directly affect?
The Commerce Clause is designed to make America a giant free trade zone. Why not employ that to make trade freer at the local, county, state and national level in America, our country? How about national licensing reciprocity?
That would be a double win, no? Without mentioning the 2A, we could win national reciprocity by simply letting a doctor in IL practice in NY or anywhere. That would go for plumbers, electricians, Realtors and all licensees.
Stop fretting about governments you cannot control and seek freer trade at home, now. Unless you prefer government managed trade, a form of slavery?
LOL. I hope you are joking. We have enormous leverage against the Chinese. We are China's biggest recipient of their exports. We can demand changes and link them to their exports to us. There are ways to use WTO and GATT to go after Chinese violations.

Yeah, that's what we need, more federal power and control over the states. What about the 10th amendment?

We don't have a problem with free trade within the US. And whatever differences exist between the states like right to work laws, licensing, regulatory codes, etc. should be left up to the states to decide and not be imposed by the federal government.
Unless you are an American that needs to eat.
I am so glad that every penny saved using suicidal Chinese coolie labor is passed on to the the US consumer. It’s so great. /sarc
Totally unencumbered economic freedom caused a market for baby body parts.
We have free trade within 50 states.
Try importing eggs to California from another state.
The US is a food exporter. Always has been.
The perennial problem in the US has always been TOO MUCH FOOD, I.e., low farm prices, the constant complaint of farmers for two centuries.

We should impregnate the soy with lead. Then send into the zipperheads.
Right, that’s a very Christian sentiment, isn’t it?
