Besides serving as governor and running for president, Chris Christie has another job. As commander in chief of the New Jersey National Guard, he is in charge of 8,400 citizen soldiers, a militia that has become increasingly dysfunctional under his watch. After he took office in 2010, Christie (R) reappointed a two-star Army general a childhood friend to lead the Guard. But the married general was forced to resign in disgrace after staff members caught him having an affair at work, documents show. The governors next pick, an Air Force pilot, was secretly reprimanded by the Pentagon last year for his excessive waistline and for repeatedly ducking physical-fitness tests, according to records obtained by The Washington Post under the Freedom of Information Act. More recently, several high-ranking officers have filed whistle blower complaints, alleging that the Guards leadership is plagued by cronyism, racism and a toxic command climate, among other problems. State and federal officials have opened independent investigations. Legislators have pledged to hold hearings. Its like the mob, said Brian K. Scully, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who says he lost his job because he refused to help cover up the generals affair. One minute youre the made man. The next, you get a bullet in the back of your head. Only here its career assassination.

Boy, he can really pick ‘em...
I wonder how many other state national guards are disfunctional?
"Birds of a feather flock together."
I would never choose to live in New Jersey. My old beloved New York State has turned rotten, and is not far behind. Sad . . .
The governors next pick, an Air Force pilot...
Apparently Christies choice wasnt too fat to get into a plane at one time. Besides, weight is relative and can be discriminatorily pound-o-phobic.

Oh....
As a side note one of the biggest failures of Federalism was to make the “state militia” national guards under Pentagon (Federal Control).
Sheriff Harry Lee in New Orleans was pretty much loved by all but was Overweight and High ranking in the National Guard ...
He pretty much got a public flaying as well.
Just saying ... If you can’t Walk the Walk
Trying to hang onto Youth is one thing, not knowing when to let go is another
He is running for president? Of what?
I would imagine 50 % of them. I knew of an appointment to Sate AG (Read: Adjutant General or the person in charge) usually a two star flag officer that was a staff sergeant in the guard before his appointment by the Governor. This guy was a fine NCO and heavy into politics at the state level but this appointment raised some eyebrows.
