Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) coined the phrase Defining Deviancy Down in 1993 to explain the surge in crime resulting from the adoption of liberal policies in recent years. The overall effect of the redefinition process was to normalize activities which had been considered abhorrent up to that time. As soon as the redefinition of one behavior became accepted, the liberals just moved on to the next. Soon, every social misfit adopted an "anything is possible" attitude and the search was on to find the lawyer who would best make the successful argument to the Supreme Court to justify their deviant lifestyles.

Even though Moynihan defined “deviancy” this way, he voted for all liberal programs to my knowledge and proposed one Hillary Rodham Clinton as his senatorial successor. Got his wish on nearly everything! And hapless New Yorkers who can still remember him adore him.
