Actually they are true radical environmentalists.

True environmentalists use a equation to quantify humanity's impact on the environment - I(mpact) = P(opulation) x A(ffluence) x T(echnology).

Based on the I=PAT theory, environmentalists would love to see everyone living in a small urban apartment, taking public transportation, working 2 part times jobs, and too poor to afford children. That is everybody except for them, the enlightened political class.

The true goal of 'climate change' is a two front attack on the middle class. On one side, it will raise the cost of just about everything, and lead to a much lower standard of living. And on the other side, this lower standard of living, they believe will lead to lower consumption of raw materials. At the same time, they remain completely ignorant of the actual truth, that it has been shown that affluence actually leads to increased efficiency, and lower impact on the environment.

The irony of the Dope's position, is that while claiming to want to lift up the poor, his position is to create more of them!!!
