I read a similar comment, on another forum, recently. The poster said something like “I don’t want my Pope to be a politician”.

I cannot recall previous Popes being as political as this one, but, I don’t remember any Popes before the ‘80’s, so not sure.

I would say JP II was very political, and for good reason. He, Reagan and Thatcher helped end Communism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
