Why no generic? Apparently Turing Pharmaceuticals tightly controls distribution of the drug so no potential manufacturer of a generic equivalent can get samples of the original drug to do the testing needed to show that the generic equivalent is really equivalent to the original.

Turing Pharmaceuticals is playing into the hands of Hillary's attack on drug prices, and may do serious damage to the pharma companies who actually are innovating. The people who developed the new $$$$ Hep C drug came up with a novel drug for a serious disease. Turing Pharmaceuticals is just gaming the regulatory system.

A little Googling reveals that Duraprim IS a generic — it’s just that this guy Martin Schkreli has the only current US rights. At this price, he’ll attract competitors, and surely knows that at best he’s getting a short-term windfall.

Bit of a dirtbag move, though.
