This article misses what could be happening by MILES.

It ignores the fact that the suburbs around these major cities all certainly have diversity quotas of their own for teachers.

So say you're a Black teacher in DC. If you go take a teaching slot in Fairfax County you get much better pay, much better benefits and a much better working environment and if you decide to live there a much better living environment and quality of life.

Correction: you take a set aside teaching slot.

It's a no-brainer.

It would be really interesting to see what the hiring trends for the suburban schools around these cities were over the same period, racial/ethnic makeup of the teachers and where they were coming in from.

Here in NJ you make a lot more money teaching on a welfare reservation. You don’t have to actually teach anything; they just can’t find enough people (of any color) willing to be anywhere near young blacks.

Last year one of our urban districts in NJ (Paterson) had 19 college-ready graduates - about 3% of their graduating seniors. Our schools are just wealth transfer mechanisms by which taxpayer dollars are funneled through the teachers’ unions to the Democratic Party.
