Veteran broadcasters accuse the board of promoting bizarre conspiracy theories as network puts pressure on staff to reduce their hours and pay
Feuding and ideological extremism have driven some of the USs flagship leftwing radio stations to the brink of collapse, according to two veteran broadcasters.
...the countrys oldest public radio network,
...
Masters said a station that once competed with National Public Radio affiliates had frittered away its credibility with ultra-leftwing rants discount versions of Radio Havana plus marketing of quack medical remedies such as curing cancer with baking soda and dietary supplements which supposedly cure Aids; promotions for things like vitamins and homeopathic cures that blur the difference between ads and journalism; and endless fundraisers.

Can’t believe they lasted this long.
John Proffitt their executive director just quit after 5 months on the job.
I remember when the Houston affiliate, KPFT, had its transmitter blown up by the KKK in the early 1970’s.
On 9/11 in NYC, before anyone knew what had really happened and who had done that terrible thing, they were playing non stop Middle Eastern music.
Just sayin’...
pacifica in NYC is WBAI...they are always having fundraisers...every once and a while when i was in the office late I’d call their fundraising hotline and hang up- i did it from a dozen different phones in the office for a half hour...
yes it was childish but it was fun annoying the left wing...
They were always a little bit “different.” I guess they lost market share.

And what is the relevance of that, doofus?
Are we supposed to infer the liberal insanity of guilt by liberal morons' suggestion?
Give it a rest.
I didn’t know they were still broadcasting until I read this article. I thought they died years ago.
Heck I do that with KQED (NPR) in the SF Bay Area. Goofing on the left is fun.
Ha! “Radio Havana.”
More like Radio Tirana back in the Cold War days.
Violence against the station
The station's transmitter was bombed and destroyed May 12, 1970, two months after going on the air. The new station was off the air for three weeks until it was repaired. Five months later, October 6, 1970, while the station was broadcasting Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant," the transmitter was bombed yet again and the damage was significantly more extensive. The second bombing took KPFT off the air for three months. No other U.S. radio station or transmitter has been bombed.January 21, 1971, KPFT management invited Guthrie to visit the Houston studios, where he performed "Alice's Restaurant" live as the station commenced transmitting yet again.
After months of inactivity by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police, Pacifica took the initiative to mount a media campaign designed to draw attention to the unsolved case and seek support for pressuring authorities to act. Federal agents ultimately arrested a member of the Ku Klux Klan, Jimmy Dale Hutto, and charged him with the KPFT bombings, as well as with plotting to blow up radio stations KPFA and KPFK. Hutto was convicted and imprisoned in 1971.

Nope. Take a deep breath. Its just some radio history. I worked at another Houston radio station then. Liberal radio has never had success, and it never will. It always flames out.
“’This is the end’: leftwing Pacifica Radio affiliates enter protracted death spiral”
How is this a surprise?
When the USSR collapsed a major source of funding for Communists dried up.
I used to listen to them years ago. They were so far left they would actually report things about Democrats that the straight press wouldn’t cover.
It’s called a fact. What’s your problem, Grand Kleagle?
Why do we need Pacifica when the Left controls the media?
