My reaction to this is that there are some things that almost no one will ever misstate.
What is your home town?
What high school did you graduate from?
What college did you graduate from?
What is your religious faith?
There could be a longer list, but there really are some facts about an individual that are so ingrainted that he or she will almost never misstate them. Answers to those things are just a reflex action, an automatic response.
That’s what Obma’s “my Muslim faith” statement causes me to think.

I have to categorically concur with you on this. I was raised Catholic. Catholic school. Altar boy. The full boat. For much of my life, I was a casual Christian. The nuns encouraged us to defend the faith. Defend the faith from whom? It all seemed a bit silly to me. Now I think I know what they are talking about. But, NEVER, even in the period of my most lax, my most casual, my most agnostic phase of my life, would I have uttered the words, "my Muslim faith".
