A group of neutral observers almost unanimously agreed Thursday night that Donald Trump fared poorly in the second Republican presidential debate. The big winners in the eleven-candidate extravaganza, most felt, were Carly Fiorina and Chris Christie.
Most in the group also gave high marks to Marco Rubio, for his grasp of foreign policy.
Several, however, noted that Trump thus far has not been hurt in polls by bad performances and cautioned against instant analysis of the CNN-sponsored show-down at the Reagan Presidential Library.
My group included pundits, an historian, a pollster, and political consultants.

. . . reminded me of Biden.
I saw what you did right there.
No and No!
So funny you’re saying this! She reminds me of every bad, overbearing, cruel female boss I’ve ever worked for.
were you touting Drudge poll when Walker was running away with it few months ago?
of course not....your analysis is situational.
Gizzi may be right or not, but he’s been conservative for 50 years. Just sayin....
“It will take some days/weeks for the debate to really affect scientific polls one way or the other.”
And when they do Trump will still be on top. You have not yet realized that Trump is a movement. Trump is a statement by the Republican voting base rejecting politicians.
Watching Trump debate I was reminded of Biden in his debate with Paul Ryan. He wasn't grinning as much but the body language was there.
I kind of suspected that most women would dread having her for a boss. They could probably make a movie about her. Fiorina wears Prada.
Swoosh.
Good answers! :)
I only watched about 2/3rds of the debate and quit but what was glaring to me was how obvious it was that Trump is a businessman whose success is based in part on his ability to get along with people when necessary and the ability to read people and events.
It was also very obvious that everyone else with the exception of Carly and Carson are politicians, practiced at saying what I want to hear and doing what they want.
Carly is awful, her “persona” is that of a horrid person.
Carson is clueless, why is he there?
Fox News just had Jeb Bush on and asked him how he felt when Trump would not apologize to his wife. They are working overtime. Had the predictable Luntz group on last night who said they were Trump voters (lol!!!) (They did this with Gingrich in 2012) but they sure like Carly Fiorina. LOLOLOL!!! I took lots of notes in 2012. I documented the liberal sources Fox used to bash Gingrich. I know the routine like you would not believe. Beck just said he thinks the GOPe darling Carly Fiorina and the amnesty loving Rubio would be a great ticket but the tea partiers need to wake up about Trump.
When the whole debate is structured as a slapshot derby against trump at goalie ... Then sure... He let a few get by. So what
I expect he will be able to yammer on about his poll numbers like a buffoon for a few more weeks/months, but in the end he is highly unlikely to be the nominee. Eventually the contest gets down to far fewer candidates and a whole lot of voting Republicans want nothing to do with a candidate, Trump, who is a populist protectionist and not a conservative.
Trump is a statement by the Republican voting base rejecting politicians.
No, Trump is a statement be SOME of the Republican voting base who are susceptible to falling for cult of personality types.
You seem to think your leader has already wrapped up the nomination. There is a long way to go and watching how defensive Trumpkins are tells me they know their guy probably can't go the distance.
There is a short sentence on the dry erase board in the “war room” in Trump’s campaign office...it simply says, “Let Trump be Trump”. He’s got to where he is by being himself. No need to change now. He is a big picture guy and knows how to get things done by putting the right people in the right positions. Why does a Presidential candidate need to have a 20 page plan on how to do “x”? Chances are, “x” won’t go the way they want it to go, they have to deal w/ Congress and sometimes s_it happens unpredictably that changes the landscape (remember 9/11, Katrina, the Arab spring, Benghazi, etc). What makes Trump rise in the polls is talking about the issues that affect the “real” people; illegal immigration/invasion, bad trade deals and nuclear deals, incompetence in our government including GOP, a poor economy and no jobs, PC is ruining us, and no one respects us internationally anymore. He wants to make America Great Again. He just needs to stick with that and let it all shake out. There will be plenty of time to solidify plans.
Neutral??? I are anyone to find a pollster, pundit or political consultant who is truly neutral. They're in those occupation because they're passionate about a cause.
And all those who participated in the Trump-bashing were made to look juvenile and petty.
I don’t think it hurt Trump at all.
But, I do wish they all would STOP with the name calling. Grow up .. and deal with the problems .. not your personal petty complaints about somebody else.
