Trump Lies about Trying to Buy Jebs Support for Florida Casinos September 16, 2015Trump appears to be the one making things up in this case. A report published by CNN earlier this month calls Bush, the man who killed Trumps casino dreams. When Bush was running for governor of Florida in the late 1998, Trump held a $500 per head fundraiser for the gubernatorial candidate at Trump Tower and donated $50,000 to the Florida Republican Party.
A Bush aide told CNN that Trump never personally lobbied Bush to change casino gambling laws. But a Bloomberg investigation of the court battle between Trump and a former protégé, published in 2005, demonstrates that Trump did pursue a Florida casino project, and he did abandon it in the face of opposition from Governor Bush after he took office in 1999.
When Florida Governor Jeb Bush nixed the idea, Trump directed that the effort be terminated entirely, read court filings from Richard Fields, Trumps former business partner. In that court battle, Trump never disputed that hed pushed for a casino gambling venture. He took issue with the claim that hed given Fields the green light to pursue it independently.
Does that fit your timeline?
That sounds pretty “puny” as a Trump donation might go, whatever else it might mean He gave a lot more to some screaming liberals.
Can you explain what it would have been that Jeb Bush would have needed to do here. What is Florida statute about the matter. Does it prescribe a process that needs the governor’s assent?
Maybe Bush is dead set against gambling due to his relgious faith - but, if he’s Catholic, that can’t be a problem. Most enjoying gambling and bingo games. But, Bush is owned by his donors and lobbyists. They all are beholden to them. I’m sure that Trump donated and helped Bush’s campaign coffers because - gee whiz - he has business dealings in Florida.
Even better!
"A Bush aide told CNN that Trump never personally lobbied Bush to change casino gambling laws. "
What was the claim? "Jeb Bush is a candidate who can't be bought! And as proof, he resisted the lobbying of Donald Trump despite receiving donations from him, turning him down!"
So did Trump lobby in any form or fashion for a casino from Jeb Bush? Your own link never says a word about it.
