Many of us who support Trump neither think he is perfect or love him. Nor do I think he’s necessary at almost any time.
But tell me who else will actually get anything done? I’ll be amazed if even Trump can get anything done ...
In a perfect world, we have Cruz. In a less perfect world - in fact - in a world that’s upside down right now - I’ll take Trump/Cruz with no reservations, assuming we see more of Trump into the future.
Remember - the president is a manager and leader. I think you might mistake many Trump supporters as cult followers. Not at all. The guy is a good manager, I know many people who have reason to testify to that personally ... put aside the bloviating showmanship ... behind that is a very very very serious man, who doesn’t smoke, drink, womanize, has virtually no bad habits other than a very healthy ego, went to military school and attended church a lot. There is a character behind all the show, and there is a genuine love of the country - even if he hasn’t perfectly translated that into what we would think of as a conservative philosophy. He’ll surround himself with experts who are conservative and effective (and even some who aren’t conservative) ... and he will provide what this country needs: EFFECTIVE management and leadership, with an affection for the country.
Who else can be effective in this environment? If you can convince me about someone being more effective -> I’ll happily relinquish Trump.
But I’ve yet to be criticized by anyone who can actually put thought behind the key question facing our country: Forget about your PHILOSOPHY about turning the boat away from going off the edge of the earth -> who actually CAN change the direction enough - we don’t even need a perfect direction - we just need ‘no longer towards suicide? I can’t guarantee Trump can ... but that’s where I place my best right now.
Debate me on that if you like. My opening statement is this: The country will not follow the people we want, they will get nothing done, the boat will be going in the same deadly direction 4 years hence with any of the ELECTABLE men on that debate stage.

I said “Nor do I think he’s necessary at almost any time.” ... typo ... what I mean is, at any other moment in history, he’s the wrong man. At this moment, one like him is necessary. And I hate people who say ‘moment in history’ ... but it’s the right phrase for this.
And forget about debating on this thread ... it’s way too old and no one’s reading. Let’s pick it up on a future thread where I’m sure we’ll disagree again ... talk then!
