Update at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday: At a press conference this morning, Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd said charges won't be filed against Ahmed Mohamed, the MacArthur High School freshman arrested Monday after bringing what school officials and police described as a "hoax bomb" on campus.
Boyd said the device -- confiscated by an English teacher despite the teen's insistence that it was a clock -- was "certainly suspicious in nature.
"The student showed the device to a teacher, who was concerned that it was possibly the infrastructure for a bomb," Boyd said.
School officers questioned Ahmed about the device and why he'd brought it to school. Boyd said Ahmed was then handcuffed "for his safety and for the safety of the officers" and taken to a juvenile detention center. He was later released to his parents, Boyd said.
"The follow-up investigation revealed the device apparently was a homemade experiment, and there's no evidence to support the perception he intended to create alarm," Boyd said.

That’s what I thought when I saw it: just a remounted commercial alarm clock. I expected to see a breadboard with counter chips and binary to seven segment converters for each digit when the reports said he built it.

America was broken before that. Massively broken. AlGore nearly winning showed how badly. Lots of people know how to fix it. Few want to do what it takes to fix it. Because they prefer the disease to the cure.
Every issue with America that needs fixing is the result of liberal philosophy, regulation and action. There is not a single thing wrong that does not have ‘liberal’ at the root. Bot one.
The solution is to simply reverse every single liberal ‘thing’ there is. Criminalize liberalism and jail anyone threatening the national security of the country by trying to promote liberal causes. It cannot be both ways. Liberalism cannot coexist with civilization any more than Islam can.
Liberals bred this problem into America and you have one way to get it out. Reversal. And lets face it. Eventually they will do worse to us. Think about that before posting how fascist an idea you think this is.

Same skill needed to build a bomb. With all the space in that case it would have been easy to add a detonater and a couple of pipe bombs. Indeed, looks a bit like a dry run. Why, after all, put the whole thing inside a briefcase, not even showing the digits, if the purpose was not to build a bomb precursor.
