South Carolina judge denies bond for former police officer who killed Walter Scott

In a court order issued Monday, South Carolina Judge Clifton Newman ruled that former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager will continue to be held without bond while he awaits trial on first degree murder charges in the March shooting of Walter Scott, a killing captured on cellphone video.

“After careful consideration of all of the evidence presented and the nature and circumstances of the offense, the Court finds that the release of Defendant would constitute an unreasonable danger to the community,” Newman wrote.

Attorneys for Slager and Scott’s family spent two days last week debating whether he should be granted the opportunity to post bail. Slager himself appeared in court last week, speaking briefly to request he be set free so he could see his family.

WOW! But he had a badge! He should be sitting on his fanny, at home, on full pay! It was only a civilian, after all, and a black one, at that, who was running away. Obvious admission of guilt.

“I’ve got a newborn son, who I’d like to see, and a family I’d like to spend some time with.”

Should have thought of that beforehand.

I second that!

When I saw the video of Slager drawing his weapon and then hesitating for a moment before he opened fire I saw that moment of hesitation as the moment he decided to murder someone.

And if it weren’t for the video this SOB would’ve gotten away with it like so many other such murderers get away with it.

“He lunged at me”

“I was in fear for my life”

And etc.

Oh, and thank you for your service, Captain!

Thank you so much! I love serving my country!

I agree with your comment concerning Slager!

I'm sure that Walter Scott had children he liked to see and family he wanted to spend some time with, too.

It’s appears that Slager would be a flight risk, and one with resources at that (fans employed by local governments).
