Hmmmmmmmmmm
That is very unfortunate. Abbott is a good man.
Why?
Hmmm. This guy had originally lost the leadership post to Abbot over a split over siding with the Labor party over carbon control / global warming legislation. So the new guy, Turnbull, buys into the Warmist Alarmist agenda.
Bummer, I liked Abbott.
WTF?!
I LIKED ABBOTT!
He does. But I suspect part of his election involves him agreeing to keep quiet about it for the near future at least.
The ABC and Fairfax must be awash in champagne tonight.
As a conservative I have long since resigned myself to having no political party that I could happily support. The Libs just voted themselves a world of trouble.
Electoral unpopularity, basically - largely caused by a feral and dishonest media. It's panicked enough Liberal MPs that they might lose the next election under Abbott, and so they've shifted to Turnbull.
Disgusting.
“Malcolm Turnbull has defeated Tony Abbott 54-44 in a Liberal Party leadership ballot and will become the nation’s 29th prime minister.”
What a shame. I liked the guy.
Thanks naturalman1975.
The leadership of the Liberal Party ( strange name to Americans I know since the Liberal Party is the more conservative party in Australia ), as always been precarious.
Turnbull contested the leadership of the party in 2009 and lost by just one vote.
The worrying thing about Turnbull is despite being Catholic, he is odds with the church’s teaching on abortion, stem cell research and same-sex marriage ( add this to the fact that he is a supporter of the Carbon Credit reduction scheme ).
NOT A VERY GOOD TURN OF EVENTS IMHO.
I hope you’re right. We need you guys standing firm on this.
Not really. The Australians are using the terms correctly. Liberal is Latin for freedom as in Liberty.
In the USA the terms conservative and liberal were coined over ideas of govt spending. The left wanted to spend "liberally" and the right wanted to spend or expand govt in a "conservative" manner. That is how the terms came to be coined in the USA.
this is what should happen to Boehner and McConnell
RE: The Australians are using the terms correctly. Liberal is Latin for freedom as in Liberty.
Well, they’re soon going to find out like the word “Democratic” ( as in North Korea’s Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ) and “Affordable” ( as in the Affordable Care Act ), and many other terms, the word will slowly lose its meaning with the election of Carbon Credit supporter Malcolm Turnbull.
All jokes aside - I don’t think Australia will become like North Korea - even with those stupid carbon credit stuff.
