Maybe they do a lot behind the scenes, but offhand I couldn’t tell you one thing my federal union did for me.

The problem with eliminating federal employee unions is that most of the federal government is managed by idiots. They make dumb decisions, run our government into the ground, and are not held accountable. These folks then are put in charge of employees and do the dumbest things and would abuse the employees if possible.

Union membership is completely voluntary, and almost all unionized federal employees are not even allowed to negotiate wages/pay or benefits except for the US postal service which is a not a taxpayer funded organization and covered under different laws than the rest of the federal government. The federal unions exist mostly to give employees a voice in working conditions (vacation times, safety issues, etc.). Their dues are not allowed to be used for political purposes either. They do not have anywhere near the power that the NEA has. Congress sets pay and benefits for federal employees.

Eliminating federal unions is not the silver bullet most people here are looking for... The problem is congress - not the federal employee. I personally believe the focus should be on eliminating whole departments like the department of education, and holding management accountable including firing a good number of them for their incompetence. Going after federal unions will not save any money - employees would always be free to donate to lobbyist organizations and influence their employment that way. Eliminate the federal unions, and nothing will happen to improve things for this nation.

Yet FDR lengthened the time of the Depression with many of his programs. Unions are an issue of the past, time for the unions to go by bye!. Look at the UAW in the State of Michigan, union dues paid for the union bosses to have their own Golf Course (it since has been sold). Union Dues do very little for the peons, but are nothing more than an appartus to promote Democratic candidates

Public employee unions are unconstitutional, in that their “contracts” bind future legislatures to tax and to spend, thereby negating the authority of the people to govern themselves.

Education Unions are ripe for the chopping block too.

They’re the #1 money and muscle behind the Democratic Party Machine.

Trial lawyers are #2.

I agree in Wisconsin the educators union has been a problem. Here in Michigan they tried to unionize homecare providers to pay union dues. For example, like myself I was approached by a SEIU bastard because he wanted me to pay union dues on an income that was supposedly receiving from the state to provide in home care for a parent with Alzheimers. i informed the SEIU bastard to get off the property immediately, the idiot refused and i had him forcibly removed by the sheriffs department. The SEIU is a real problem. The homecare providers unionization was deemed illegal by the state of Michigan

Randi Weingarten AFT [American Federation of Teachers] President

and Richard L. Trumka, AFL-CIO President

and BCTD are investing pension funds in Democrat initiatives [GREEN and CLINTON GLOBAL ready].

"......At the White House event today, the labor movement committed to work to invest $150 million in energy-efficient retrofit projects in the coming months.

President Obama announced that nearly $4 billion of investments have been committed already, including $2 billion by workers' pension funds, CEOs, mayors and university presidents for energy-saving upgrades. This builds on 14 private sector commitments announced at the Clinton Global Initiative conference in June, including the labor movement's aim to invest $10 billion in pension fund assets in job-creating infrastructure projects over the next five years.

"The Better Buildings initiative has all the right components to make a real difference—it will create profitable investment opportunities for worker pension funds, create badly needed good jobs, increase America's competitiveness around energy savings, and address the dangers of climate change," said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.

"This is about smart investments in America's future," AFT President Randi Weingarten said at the White House event. "The initiative is a win-win-win. It puts skilled laborers back to work on projects that will cut energy bills and pollution, reduce our dependency on foreign oil and create tens of thousands of new jobs. It's exactly what America needs now to strengthen our economy." The Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO said the initiative will have a profound impact on the U.S. construction industry, which is suffering a 14 percent unemployment rate nationwide, by providing apprenticeships and jobs.

"It will create much-needed pathways for Americans to gain access to job and career training while making great strides to address our critical energy and environmental challenges," said Mark H. Ayers, president of the Building and Construction Trades Department.

The AFT has been retrofitting its headquarters building in Washington, D.C., to become LEED Silver certified, and the AFL-CIO has committed to a Better Buildings Challenge retrofit of its headquarters, expected to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent.

"We not only are asking others to commit to energy-saving retrofits, but we're also doing it ourselves," Weingarten said.

Over the past year, the AFL-CIO, AFT and BCTD have been working with a broad coalition of pension funds, money managers, public officials and employers to focus investment in our nation's infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on energy-efficient retrofits.

The AFL-CIO has exceeded its initial Clinton Global Initiative commitment of working with existing real estate-focused investment funds to invest between $10 million and $20 million of additional capital in energy-efficient retrofits of commercial, industrial, institutional and public buildings over the next six months. -- AFL-CIO, AFT and BCTD Laud $4 Billion Commitment to Presidential ‘Better Buildings Challenge’ Initiative

Scott Walker will be out of the race in a month, so why pay attention to anything he ‘announces’. Besides he’ll just change his mind next week if a reporter presses him

As Obamacare layers are pealed away (and more rules are made up by the Sec of HHS - as is her privilege under the Act) we will be seeing more and more pressure to unionize groups.

Saw it. Are you a government employee or do you think I am? I don’t get the reference.

Walker is working to end the government union cabal against the nation. I think that’s a good thing and he’s the only proven candidate who has done so. It’s not just a promise with him.

Until the time it (hopefully) goes through, make it illegal for any entity that cannot pull the voting lever to donate time/$$/research....ANYTHING.

That would about do the same thing; keep the cash flow OUT of the Dem camp, while picking the pockets of the taxpayers.

Never understood, OK...I’m not THAT naive, how the conflict of interest can stand. The ‘employer’ (govt) negotiating price (paid BY the taxpayers) against...itself. Seems legit to me! /s
