A Pennsylvania barber shop has been fined after refusing to cut a womans hair.
Barbiere in Washington, Pennsylvania, is described as a high end Gentlemans Barber Shop.
On March 11, a woman, Diamond Pecjak of Crucible, walked into the shop after booking an appointment online for herself and her boyfriend, according to the Observer-Reporter Newspaper.
After being told no, Pecjak filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs against the shop.
The shop was fined $750 over the incident.
Barbieres owner, John Interval, said he didnt know he was compelled to service both genders and doesnt expect an upswing in female customers anytime soon.
"I didn't really consider it so much a discrimination thing as it's a barbershop, you know," Interval said.
Interval said he will not formally contest the fine, but he disagrees with the penalty.
Its infringing on our environment. Guys come here as a kind of a little getaway, to be around other guys, said Interval, while clipping a customers beard as Frank Sinatra tunes played on the stereo. My hands are tied. They are forcing me to do this and telling me how to do my business.
He said the shop recommended salons and even offered to pay for Pecjaks haircut elsewhere to compensate for the inconvenience.
Nearly 100 supporters of Barbiere signed a petition in opposition of the boards ruling.
Pecjak, a cosmetologist, wanted a fade, a trendy mens haircut. She declined to comment on her complaint, on her attorneys advice.
Slavery was “out of the barn” for a couple hundred years or so.
Somewhere around a half million people died putting that horse “back in the barn”.
I say it’s LIBERALISM generally that needs to be put “back in the barn”.
Nope. They all only hire, serve, include, women or in some cases all of the above. It seems what’s good for the goose is not anyways good for the gander.
There may also be a licensing issue involved too. For example, the girl who cuts my hair is only a licensed "barber" which is stated on her publicly displayed license........
You seem to be one of those who do not recognize a joke without a flashing red sign reading: “JOKE!”
You seem to be one of those who is not very good at telling a joke.
And youd feel the same if a boutique refused to do a man’s request if he wanted it styled in a female hairdo?
I dont have a problem with a barbeshop that caters to one gender. I dont have a problem with a female boutique that only wants female customers. You apparently do.
You must have a real issue with Curves, then. They totaly refuse male clients for any and all reasons.
He should just start giving them all the Larry Fine. That will stop it.
No.
Have no idea what part of my comment your “no” refers to. But I am surmising you wanted it this way.
