Funny thing, how quickly public opinion can change.
In the wake of the vaunted Arab Spring, when we wrote about people running for their lives, especially groups targeted by the zealots taking power i.e. Christian and pagan minorities half-hearted interest was momentarily feigned. Then the public returned to looking at celebrity selfies on their twitter feeds. Hashtag something-or-other. I forget.
Until, one day, a toddler washes up on shore. Suddenly theres a name, and a face, and a story. Suddenly, we care.
The tide of public opinion sublimates from disinterest to outrage, with no intermediate step.
Suddenly, we are demanding action. What action? Immediate action! Progressive action! Government Action! Action from our leaders!
What KIND of action? The Right action! Help them!
Hmmm.
Perhaps none of these people have yet learned the lesson associated with replying to an email while angry, or dialing the phone after one too many. Emotional reactions and wise decisions are seldom the same things.
What is the general outcry? Someone in need requires help. The instinct to help them is good. But what kind of help should be offered? Who should offer it? Is there a kind of help that is incorrect for the situation?
Are there clues we can see about this scenario that should give us pause?
I think there are several.
1. The refusal of five wealthiest Arab neighbors to offer sanctuary. When Kuwait was attacked, hundreds of thousands were offered sanctuary. Today, their doors are closed to Syria, citing terrorism concerns. 2. The UNs refugee demographics show a disproportionate number of men. Of 381,000 refugees, 72% are men; 13% women; 15% children (hardly the figures youd associate with high-birthrate nations) 3. The official story that made the headlines may not be a flight-from-Syria story after all. As one article argues, it may be a looking-for-an-immigration-loophole story. 4. Reports of spurious and convenient conversions from Islam to Christianity with probable hopes it will improve their immigration chances.
As a Christian, the last point is the easy one to address first. Anyone having read the opening chapters of Augustines City of God will have already heard arguments for why we ought not expect faith in Christ to get us our best life now; certainly not better circumstances than our neighbors.
If faith in Christ merely gave us an easier life, people would be drawn to convert for exactly the wrong reasons: it would cheapen our faith. Let any rulings on immigration not be measured by whether someone can claim Christ as Lord.
Let would-be applicants eat a BLT if you wish; or maybe finger-paint a picture of Mohammad in pigs blood, or whatever random test they think might weed out violent jihadis. Get as creative as you like. But please dont accept a pseudo-conversion to Christ as a get-past-immigration-free card.
Whatever test they do come up with, I hope they remember taqiyya. Taqiyya is Islams permission to lie about personal ideas, beliefs, strategies, etc.. For the purposes of advancing Islam.
And related to point three why might anyone think lying about their refugee status could support Islam? I will quote one of their own leaders, although the last person who did so faced a formal human rights complaint. (Note: the following quote was originally said by a Muslim. If you dislike the idea, take it up with him!)
Were the ones who will change you, the Norwegian imam Mullah Krekar told the Oslo newspaper Dagbladet in 2006. Just look at the development within Europe, where the number of Muslims is expanding like mosquitoes. Every Western woman in the EU is producing an average of 1.4 children. Every Muslim woman in the same countries is producing 3.5 children. As he summed it up: Our way of thinking will prove more powerful than yours. (quoted from Mark Steyns The Future Belongs To Islam)
What do you suppose this sudden surge of people will do to that equation?
Lets work back to point two. In real situations of need, we typically find the most vulnerable people seeking help. Which leaves me scratching my head. Why are 72% of the refugees men? Remember, not my figures. Its the UN.
Typically, the people most in need, and most vulnerable in these situations are emphatically NOT men. Children? Yes. Women? Certainly. Even allowing for some portion of elderly, how can we possibly have 72% men? Sorry, but this number trips my BS meter. And it should trip yours, too.
People in legitimate need should get help, yes. But think back to the demographics of these countries. Median ages are often under 18 years old. Children should be expected to actually outnumber the adults. Where are they? Statistically, wives should at least equal the men. Right? Well, where are they? Whats really driving this mass migration?
Back to point one. Why are wealthy Arab neighbours shutting their doors? Concern about security threats using this screen to enter their nations. Are we now obligated to call these Arab nations Islamophobic? I only ask this because its what Western nations would be called. Maybe they know something about the players involved, and the attendant risks?
The first and best place for refugees to go is somewhere with shared culture and language. (Nearby stable Arab nations.) Pressure should be brought to bear for acceptance of genuine refugees into such places.
Nations further removed might be expected to play comparatively smaller roles as differences in culture, language and distance grow between place of origin and the destination, proportional to any receiving nations ability to absorb them, integrate them, and care for them.
After all, a paramount obligation of any sovereign nation, is the maintaining the peace within its own borders. Among other things, this includes careful attention to who crosses into its borders and with what intent.
One could always hope they kill the libtards first...
“Refugee crisis” is just the liberal way of saying, Islamofascist, camel jockey invasion.
In the case of Syrian refugees (I’ve had conversations with them)...you come to realize that a fair number of them had better-than-average-education than what you’d expect out of Afghanistan or Iraq. Because of the unique relationship to Russia, a small number went and did their university deal in Russia. In some ways, I think Assad’s government over the past thirty years...did put some realistic money into educational enterprises within Syria. Before all this civil war business and ISIS showed up....Syria did have a small population of Christians and ran a fair deal with them...something you wouldn’t find in Iran, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan.
I know a lot of folks at FR have already questioned the story around the photo of the dead little boy.
I saw some new information today that confirmed one of my suspicions (besides the fact that people took pictures of this kid BEFORE pulling him out of the surf and trying to revive him).
The Father previously claimed that the smuggler/boat captain jumped into the sea and swam away BEFORE the boat sunk.
Today, other news sources are claiming that the Father was the smuggler/boat captain.
Yes, the Palis are masters at exploiting their children for propaganda purposes. Frankly I’m surprised they didn’t dress up this poor little boy in a Nike, Fubu or other eeevil American corporation branded shirt.
WATCH: Syrian Girl explains the MIGRANT CRISIS like nobody else
The proof is not here now, but any accounting of cash flows to the "importers" will likely show a malevolent drive by the Jihadi countries of 9/11.
Accepting refugees empowers the bad guys.
They have an open declaration of WAR against mankind!
Step two tear down all their strongholds aka mosques, ban the queeran, and start deportations!
We didn't import entire city populations of Japanese Germans, and Italians during WWII, why are we importing our sworn enemies now? We didn't allow them to build strongholds. We didn't allow them to practice their form of govt.
Feed em fish heads!
First, all they have to use is one key word, all the time that seems to be more effective than all of Israel's government offices and spokesmen. The word is:
OCCUPATION
Nobody questions what this really means (in the Paelostinian lexicon, not the West's) except the general meaning.
Most people assume the Paleos are talking about the June 1967 or “West Bank” or “Green Line” when the so-called Occupation began but no, folks. The PLO and Arabs called Israel the occupation BEFORE 1967, that is, BEFORE the 1967 war. So what were the Israelis occupying then? Well, “Palestine” and then, they called for Israel's destruction so what is, indeed the occupation?
Is it the 1917, 1929, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1956 or 1967 lines? Answer:
All of them.
So, the occupation won't end until all the Jews and Israel are dead. Plain and simple. Therefore we must always ask:
What is the goal of the so-called peace talks all the time?
Compromise by the PLO?
No.
Compromise at all?
No.
Israel knows how to and has made peace + withdrawals in the past. She has made (what MAD Albright called), PAINFULL CONCESSIONS FOR PEACE.
That cost the Israelis pools of blood.
It is high time the world, (especially now that we have the Islamic Trojan Horse invading Europe), it is high time we called the PLO/PA/Paleostinan to grow up and make peace instead of raising their damned flag at the UN...
Jihadist Invasion is simpler.
Whoa, that is an angle I never thought of.... you’re right!
WHY did people take pictures of this kid BEFORE pulling him out of the surf and trying to revive him?
Unreal.
Muslims are MANIPULATORS!!
The lousy Saudis won’t take in any “refugees”, but instead have offered to build 200 new mosques IN GERMANY! Who would have thought that Germans are stupid enough to surrender to Islam without firing a shot? To be morally weak as a nation is the most devastating weakness of all.
This refugee crisis falls into one of my favorite categories of problems. I call this category of problems “OPP-other people’s problems”. I love OPP because the solution is always so simple.
Why are the Saudis not willing to take in refugees into their own country, but are willing to build mosques, instead ??
This is NOT a humanitarian issue , .. that's why !
This is an economic INVASION to bring down the West,.. to defeat civilization,.. overwhelm chivalry, and Christianity .
Why is there so much Chaos, Muslum versus Muslum ,especially when the European Union is so economicly vulnerable at this time ?
It is the ultmate use of Saul Alinskys Rule #4:
RULE 4: Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.
You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules."
Why else would the Saudis not accept all of their own bretheren - .. especially when it is written in their scrptures that it is all right to lie to the infidel ?
It is a Political religion of CONQUEST and INVASION ,.. and NOT a Religion of Peace !
Well I hear the Muslims will be giving free flying lessons to the LBGT crowd who supported them after they get settled in.
