I had not read that....My understanding was that the usual senate rules apply on the votes for the various agreements, but they cannot add amendments.

A 2/3 vote would be necessary to overcome a veto. Which is normal.

But my understanding to pass is the 60 vote threshold to break a filibuster..as per usual.

When I get time I will pull up the TPA and read the damn thing...but not tonight..

Tariffs and trade barriers, of the kind that Trump is selling to his populist base, is exactly the sort of thing that causes and has caused recessions, depressions, and even global trade wars.

There is nothing wrong with import taxes, fees, tariffs when it serves the America people's best interest. I see nothing but foreigners and foreign products. Is that in our best interest?

Free trade is not the boogieman you think it is..

Maybe you should go out and bustup a few windows and heads with the usual anti globalist crowd. They think the same thing.

Trade is necessary for US jobs. Trade deals are important to trade. The critical things are in the agreement. You need to be able to see the agreement to know that.

You have to have anti-dumping clauses, rules and regs on defective materials etc...this is the only way you will get free and fair trade.

Chaos does not make for good trade, nor do tariffs, port taxes, because these are not legitimate controls.

Threats and retaliations, imbalances, dumping, defective building materials all result from politically controlled trade via tariff and quota’s.

Economic recessions, at least one depression and several global meltdowns have been blamed on chaotic trade regulation. Some claim it’s led to wars.

Conservatives long ago took a free trade stance for these and other reasons. from time to time some political candidate comes along and resurrects the opposition to it but it’s out of ignorance that they do, or just plain populism politics.

Tariffs are sometimes necessary when trade agreement do not exist or are broken, as in the case of the south Korean tire issue some years ago.

Trump recently said that he bought thousands of TVs for his properties, he wanted to do business with Sony but they were too high a price and he went to south Korea...likely Samsung.

Then a few days later he spouts off that the world is screwing the US and that he would fix it.

I really have a hard time understanding what so called conservative freepers see in Trump, other than his no fear bravado.

I do not see how that translates into a president who is good for this country and constitution.

Have not seen the American middle class decline over the past couple decades?

Just curious, how many of his big$ “investors” are invested or connected to these trade agreements?

It’s a complicated world dragnet, and trade is ultra complicated.

Ted cruz for example is a Senator from texas as you know, and texas has a lot of stuff they want to sell to the world. trade agreements are necessary to make that happen, and that brings money and jobs to texas.

There are exceptions to this, like China. you really don’t make a trade agreement with china. They make one with you. China does not want to buy our stuff, for the most part (there is a exception) they want to MAKE our stuff, and in exchange for making our stuff they will or might allow it to be sold in China.

I have had and continue to have major issues with China and if anyone is screwing us it is them...so lets get back to the exception. The exception is agriculture. They cannot make our agricultural output, so they have to buy it.

I am in Arkansas, Cruz is in Texas, I also have a place in Alabama, and all three of these States vie for business in China. They want, they need, a trade agreement with china.

All this means jobs for places that need jobs, and you will find yourself standing between a rock and a hardplace if you stand in between.

Like I said...it’s complicated.

But before I would ever advocate approval of TPA or any other, I would need to see what is inside.

Far as I know, nobody has...

Cruz voted for TPA not TPP as it hasn’t been voted on yet.

TPP is bad bad bad for Americans, if Trump or anyone can stop America from signing unto TPP they will be legend.

That’s a canard..

If American companies could compete on price, we would male it.

We can’t...on many items, most of them are low margin junk.

If you take into consideration that the State of New York is raising it’s min wage to 15 bucks per hour, I seriously doubt that we ever will make these products again, and if you tariffed imports to help that situation, you would create retaliation and as a result be paying 75 bucks fo a pound of coffee not to mention higher prices on everything dependent on imported raw materials.

As I said, these things eventually lead to recessions, depressions, wars...and then the tariffs come off. lesson learned they say...until the next time.....

We don’t have free trade deals (other than with Canada for the most part) they are ship jobs out of America deals and hurt us badly. These trade deals need to renegotiated and if they don’t equally benefit Americans then let tariffs be the penalty.

“Heidi Cruz is an expert on NAFTA and plays a part involved in international trade while being part of CFR.”

Which puts her in the position to influence Ted in very, ummm, marital ways that — among past White House pairs — have involved things like a lockbox.

Do NOT ever dismiss who the First Lady would be, and what her ties and associations are. The vote for President, is not a vote for a man; it’s a vote for a couple.

Let me tell you what I believe.

I have traveled a bit...and I have made observations.

In most every country I have been to, the people are all getting screwed, but not by other countries. they are being screwed by their own governments.

In the US, the average citizen complains about getting screwed when they have to pay 5 dollars a pound for hamburger, when in other countries, they either cant get hamburger or steak, and if they could it would cost ten times what we are paying.

In other countries, the average household spends one half to two thirds of their net income on food and necessities. We only spend less than a fifth, or 20% or less, often only 15%.

They have little or no extra spendable income and we have plenty in comparison.

To the rest of the world, it looks to them like we are screwing them...or so their governments tell them.

You should see how a middle class Brit lives in a dinky little flat with miniature appliances and few lights..

So they are screwing us....eh...

No....Their own governments (socialists) are screwing their own and blaming us...

So.......what we have here now is our own government screwing us, and blaming them....

It’s patently ridiculously simple.......
